TWIST exclusive Cody Simpson interview

TWIST just chatted with one of our fave singers, Cody Simpson! Cody's been on tour with Big Time Rush and Rachel Crow, but last night he took a little break to celebrate the launch of Hallmark's Text Bands with a meet and greet and an acoustic performance! We talked to Cody Simpson about why he loves Text Bands, how he deals with missing friends, his upcoming album and what we can expect to see in upcoming episodes of his "Wish U Were Here" web series! Check out our chat with Cody below and don't forget to check out his summer single, "Wish U Were Here."

XOXO,
TWIST

TWIST: Can you tell me a little about the Hallmark Text Bands?
CS: The Text Band is real cool for a lot of my younger fans that may not have a phone and they wanna chat through technology. They can bump wrists and exchange messages and stuff, so I just thought it was really cool.

TWIST: Have you been using the Text Bands at all?
CS: My little brother loves the Text Bands. He's been using them a bit and he's having a lot of fun with it. I play with him a little bit with them.

TWIST: If you were the same age as, or maybe a little bit older than your brother, what's the number one thing you would use a Text Band for?
CS: Maybe asking a girl out on a first date. You know, I wish I had that when I was a little bit younger, cause I would have used that to my great advantage.

TWIST: Can you tell me what you're looking forward to doing at the event this evening?
CS: I'm doing a little acoustic performance. It'll be cool to just mellow out a little bit. Just sit down with my guitar and get into it.

TWIST
: Can you tell me a little about the upcoming episodes for "Wish U Were Here?"
CS: I think the next one is going to be focused around Alli. I can't give away too much more! We just definitely wanna keep on giving my fans that behind the scenes insight on what goes on and the fun that we have on tour.

TWIST
: I know you're also putting the finishing touches on Paradise, is that right?
CS: The album is pretty much finished! We still have until October 2nd to get it all ready to go. I'm pretty stoked! We've got a lot of amazing dance tracks and a lot of really great, chill, beach records. I'm just so excited for my fans to hear it!

TWIST: Can you tell me one of the most meaningful songs that you've recorded?
CS: "Wish U Were Here." It's pretty much what the whole summer campaign is based around. I'm just really focused on that song at the moment, going around and performing it and telling my fans to request it on radio stations and at Radio Disney! It's been number one on Radio Disney for the last week or so. So that's pretty sweet. I think it's something that a lot of people can relate to when they're away and they're missing friends or a girlfriend or a boyfriend or whoever it is.

TWIST: Can you tell me a little bit more about what that's like? How do you deal when you miss people?
CS: It can be hard from time to time. I do know that I've been out on the road for about three months and I'll be traveling pretty much until the end of the year, so it does get hard sometimes. Aside from all the amazing things that happen, you do have a moment where you miss a lot of your friends, and I think it's cool for people to have a song that kinda ties that all together, but is a really fun summer jam as well.

TWIST: When you think back now, especially when you're watching the Olympics, do you ever have any second thoughts about giving up swimming?
CS: I definitely don't regret it. 'Cause what I'm doing right now is so amazing and I just wouldn't wish for anything else. I do miss swimming a lot and you never know what could happen in the future. Nothing's impossible and it's never too late for things. Just right now, I'm living my dreams. But, we'll see what happens. I don't wanna say too much.

TWIST: Do you still swim?
CS: No, I don't really have too much downtime to do that. It's time consuming, but every once and a while I'll go into the pool and do a couple of laps and stuff. But, I'm happy for a lot of my mates who've made the team. One of my mates actually got the silver medal in the breaststroke. I'm excited for him!

TWIST
: Any upcoming projects?
CS: If you haven't come out to the show, come out and see the tour. I'm just excited for my album to come out!

TWIST
: Thank you so much for taking the time to talk to us Cody!
CS: Definitely! Thanks again. Have a good one!

Jordyn-Wieber-Olympian.jpg

Did you catch the women's gymnastic finals last night? If you didn't, check it out because the U.S. team was AMAZING and went home with the gold! We recently sat down with 17-year-old Olympic gymnast and world all-around champion Jordyn Wieber and chatted about her beauty tips, how she deals with competing with friends, her love of high school football games and what it's like to train for the Olympics! Check out our EXCLUSIVE Q and A below!

TWIST: Before the Olympics, did you have a favorite gymnastics moment?
Jordyn: Definitely World Championships last year was a big moment, winning the gold as a team was a huge goal of mine and I was really happy we achieved that. Then going on to win the all-around was really exciting!

TWIST: What drives you to keep training even on days when you're exhausted?
Jordyn: Ever since I was younger I've had a big passion for the sport, so when I have a tough day I just keep my goals in mind! Making the Olympic team is something I've always dreamed of, so I always just kept that in the back of my mind and it helped me get through those tough days. It helped me stay motivated.

TWIST: Obviously you're always in a leotard and gymnastics is a sport where you're constantly aware of your body. Did you ever feel self-conscious about your body growing up?
Jordyn: I've always been really conscious of my body weight and how I look in a leotard, but I think keeping a healthy diet and staying in the gym working out has made it really easy for me to feel good about my body.

TWIST: How does training affect your social life? Do you ever feel like you're missing out on the normal teenage life?
Jordyn: Because I train so much I don't have the normal high school social life but I try to do as much as I can! In the fall I try to go to as many football games as I can. Usually on Saturday nights I try to hang out with my friends and we'll go to the movies or shopping. I try to find time whenever I can to hang out with them!

TWIST: You and the other girls on your team are really close friends, is it ever hard competing against them?
Jordyn: We've never had a problem, we've always been the best of friends and even when it comes to competition we just want each other to do well -- we cheer for each other!

TWIST: Any quick beauty tips for getting ready in the morning?
Jordyn: When I wake up in the morning I usually go to the gym right away so I just use Olay to moisturize my face and I'll just throw on Covergirl mascara! I don't want to put on too much makeup on for work out!

TWIST: You're an ambassador to P&G Beauty. Why did you decide to get involved in their campaign?
Jordyn: I love the overall campaign, it says that when you look good you feel better and it boosts your confidence. I think that's so true!

TWIST: If you were to give advice to your middle school self what would you say?
Jordyn: My best advice is probably just to be confident in the skin you're in. Just remember to embrace the body you're given and be confident!

TWIST: Thanks so much for talking to us today and good luck at the Olympics!
Jordyn: Thank you!

TWIST Exclusive: TWIST Chats With Kayla Brianna!

twist-chats-with-kayla-brianna.jpg

Kayla Brianna just stopped by the TWIST office! The singer dished all about how she got her big break, how fun it is touring with Mindless Behavior and deets on her upcoming album! Check out our conversation and exclusive video below and don't forget to check out Kayla's single, "If You Love Me!"

XOXO,
TWIST

TWIST: How did you get your break in to the business as an artist?
Kayla Brianna: I originally started in girl groups and eventually started my solo career. I was doing demos and just recording in the studio, and this guy named Vincent Herbert - who's one of the major forces behind Lady Gaga, Mindless Behavior and OMG Gurlz - heard one of my songs and suggested I work with the interns who are producers now. They had done Rihanna's "Birthday Cake," and worked with artists like Big Sean and Ludacris. With them, I did a remake of Brownstone's "If You Love Me." A guy by the name of Ron Fair heard it at Interscope Records. He was like 'Who is this?' and wanted to meet with me. So I had a few meetings with him and he ended up signing me to Interscope.

T: Awesome! Which one of your songs is most personal to you?
KB: Besides my single "If You Love Me," another personal song would be "One Kiss." I feel like a lot of people can relate to it. It's just real R&B, really relatable, and I'm emotionally attached to the song.

T: Cool! Do you write your own music?
KB: Yes I do. The process is different every time. Sometimes I'll have a thought already that I want to sing about when I go into the studio, or sometimes we're all in the studio bouncing ideas off of each other. Both ways work and both ways are fun!

T: Awesome! Who are some of your musical influences?
KB: I think my sound is mostly influenced by Brandy. I also love Beyonce, 90's Destiny's Child, and Jojo, just to name a few. I really like all those artists, so my music is definitely a reflection or sometimes an extension of their music.

T: Awesome! So you're the opening act for Mindless Behavior this summer. How is the touring experience with the boys?
KB: It's a LOT of fun! It's my first tour and the boys are so awesome to tour with! There was a time when I started getting threats from their fans because I guess they weren't used to me being around, but that calmed down and they started getting comfortable with me. I really wanted to clear up everything with their fans because that's the same audience I'm trying to attract, you know, young girls.

T: OMG! While on tour, what's the craziest thing you've brought with you in your suitcase?
KB: Hmmmm ... I can't think of something that's really crazy. I mean I always bring my phone with me wherever I go but that's not really crazy. Okay, one thing that I always have to bring would be about five different perfumes. I don't know why but I guess I really like perfume!

T: Your album is set to release this year. Do you have a final date yet?
KB: There are no final dates but my fans can expect all kinds of music on the album. I just want to do something fun that my fans can relate to and just love.

T: Cool! What can our readers expect next from you? Do you have anything in the works coming soon?
KB: My fans can expect a lot of great music from me, tons of good fashion and even a bit of acting coming soon. I'm trying to get out there in the acting world and see what it's like. After I finish touring with Mindless Behavior, I'm going straight into shooting my second video. And of course you guys can follow me on Twitter (@kaylabriannax) and visit my page: www.kaylabrianna.com.

T: Awesome! Thanks so much for talking with us Kayla!
KB: No problem! Thank you!

TWIST exclusive Rachel Crow interview
TWIST just chatted with singer Rachel Crow! Right now she's on tour with Big Time Rush and Cody Simpson and she is having a blast! She told us about working with DoSomething.org, her favorite tour memory and how she's getting along with Cody Simpson and the Big Time Rush guys! Check out our exclusive convo below and don't forget to check out Rachel Crow's single, "Mean Girls," out now!

XOXO,
TWIST

TWIST: Do you have a favorite memory of the tour so far?
RC: Yeah! It was actually the first night when I didn't think I did as well as everybody else. I was a little upset. I was like 'Aww, I could have done better!' But it was my first show and it was okay. So told everyone, 'I don't think anyone's gonna be at my signing tent.' So my manager actually took the time to shorten the poles that keep the lines in order, so I wouldn't feel bad if there weren't too many people. Then as I was coming up the escalator, there were thousands of people just screaming and the line went into the venue and wrapped around. It was so crazy. I felt so blessed and amazing at that moment.

TWIST: So how have you been getting along with Big Time Rush and the rest of the tour?
RC: I get along with them great! They're like my big brothers. We have so much fun on the tour and with each other. I think everybody just is like a huge family here.

TWIST: You're also working with DoSomething.org! Can you tell us a little bit about that?
RC: Yes I am! I'm loving it. Recently I went to a library and showed some kids the bully app on Facebook that goes through DoSomething.org. You log into your Facebook and it gives you test questions about bullying and you answer them. At the end it asks you what you can do to stop bullying in your community. It was really cool. There was one little boy who was so adorable and he just said, 'I don't know what to write.' So I said, 'How do you get bullied?' He replied, 'I get punched.' So I asked, 'What do you do to stop it?' When he confessed, 'I punch him back.' I said, 'Okay, we don't want to do that. How about just turning around and walking away?' He said 'It'll be hard but I can do it.' He was so cute!

TWIST: Thanks for chatting with us!
RC: Thank you!

We recently chatted with YouTube sensation Ryan Beatty! He spilled all about his new EP, the superstar he wants to duet with, and the new album he's already working on! Check out our conversation below, and be sure to check out Ryan Beatty's debut EP, Because of You!

XOXO,
TWIST

TWIST: Can you tell us a little bit about Because of You?
Ryan Beatty: My EP Because of You is dedicated to my supporters and everyone who got me to where I am today. Every single song on there is for them. I worked really hard on it, so I'm really happy about the success it's having right now. I'm really grateful for all my supporters who've really stuck with me from when I first started to now.

TWIST: Definitely! Do you have a favorite song?
RB: I'm torn between two of them. It's "Hey L.A." and "Like Me Or Not." Those are my two favorites, and it's so hard because they both have different feels to them. I'm not sure exactly which one is my favorite because I love both of them so much.

TWIST: What inspired you to write those two songs?
RB: Well "Hey L.A." was based on my first experience ever going to L.A. My family and I moved to L.A., so it's also the transition from going from Northern California to Southern California. And then, "Like Me Or Not" is about when you have those crushes, but you don't know whether they like you or not.

TWIST: Is that based on a specific crush?
RB: Not on a specific crush, but it's definitely been a past experience. I think we've all experienced that, when you don't know if someone likes you or not, but you really have a crush on them.

TWIST: Totally! If you could duet with anyone, who would it be?
RB: If I could do a duet with anyone, it would probably have to be Demi Lovato. She has an amazing voice. I really just want to meet her. I think it'd be awesome!

TWIST: What's next for you?
RB: I just released my EP, but I'm really working on a full album now. I'm excited for people to hear it. It has an old, throwback feel to it, and I'm loving the way it's going. The EP gives a taste of what's going to be on my album. I'm really looking forward to it!

TWIST: We're looking forward to it, too! Thanks for chatting with us!
RB: Awesome! Thanks!

TWIST just chatted with actress Meaghan Martin! Meaghan was so nice and told us about her involvement with the ACUVUE 1-Day Contest. She also revealed whether or not she plans to record an album and spilled some exclusive deets about a few of her upcoming movies! Check out the conversation below!

XOXO,
TWIST

TWIST: Can you tell us about the ACUVUE 1-Day Contest?
Meaghan Martin: I was a part of the 1-Day Contest last year and it was a lot of fun! I got to spend the day with my winner and I also got to play the host role, so I got to see everybody's story and meet all of the winners and watch their dreams come true. When ACUVUE asked me to come back again this year, I was really excited and I had so much fun again!

TWIST: What made you originally want to get involved with ACUVUE?
MM: Well, first of all, I wear ACUVUE contact lenses, so that was a great match! And then also, I thought it was such a cool idea to take these kids and help them get one step closer to their dream because that's so important. I think it's great to encourage people to do what they love to do and what they dream of doing.

TWIST: What was the best part of working with a mentee?
MM: My mentee was great. He was such a nice guy and was really passionate about performing and being a great music artist. I think my favorite part was watching his reactions throughout the day. I loved watching the surprises and how they affected him. His smile kept getting bigger and bigger.

TWIST: You've recorded several songs in the past. Do you have any plans to record an album?
MM: No, no album for me. I love singing, but it mostly just goes hand in hand with acting for me.

TWIST: Are you currently working on any movies?
MM: I just finished filming a movie called Geography Club, and I had so much fun making it. It'll probably be out next year, but I'm not sure exactly when. I think a lot of people are really going to enjoy it. It's a fun movie.

TWIST: Do you have any other upcoming projects TWIST readers should know about?
MM: Yeah, I have a movie called Sironia coming out in October in theaters. It's about a songwriter and his journey of deciding whether he wants to live in Los Angeles or Texas. I play a small role, but it's really fun. I'm kind of like a Taylor Swift-type country popstar. It was a lot of fun to do.

TWIST: Did you sing at all in the movie?
MM: Yeah, I have two songs in the movie, so it was great!

TWIST: We can't wait to see it! Thanks so much for chatting with us, Meaghan!
MM: Thanks, TWIST!

TWIST just chatted with Shake It Up stars Bella Thorne and Zendaya Coleman! The girls were super fun and told us about their new movie Shake It Up: Made In Japan! They also revealed some exclusive deets about their upcoming tour and the third season of Shake It Up! Check out the conversation and our exclusive video below and be sure to watch the premiere of Shake It Up: Made In Japan on August 17th on the Disney Channel! Plus, check out our exclusive photo of the girls, above!

XOXO,
TWIST

TWIST: Shake It Up: Made In Japan is coming soon! What was your absolute favorite part of filming it?
Zendaya: The dramatic scene for sure because it was something new for us to do because we're so used to comedy and we're always being super funny and upbeat all the time! It was a nice change for our show and it was nice for us to practice our drama skills and get back in the swing of things.
Bella: The one scene that I like to watch, though, is the scene where we are in the ninja restaurant because they threw that in at the end of the day and it was supposed to be shot three days later. Zendaya and I were like, 'Oh no! Oh no! We haven't studied this yet!' We had no rehearsal, so we looked at it and we tried to do it. Watching it back, I said, 'We actually had a nice take in there.'

TWIST: You guys had to do some dramatic acting for the movie. Is that something you would like to do more of or are you more comfortable doing comedy?
B: Well, for me, I love film and I love drama. That's always been my home and I think it always will be.
Z: I just like the fact that Shake It Up has always had those deep, intense moments every now and then, like the dyslexia episode or even the first episode we ever did. There is always a dramatic moment that really shows a deeper side to things. And I feel like it isn't all just fluff and comedy and there are some real stories being told underneath. So that's what I really like about the show. I would like to continue that and still have those deep moments because that's what makes it real.

TWIST: You're going to be doing a third season of the show, which is awesome! Congratulations!
B and Z: Thanks!

TWIST: Are you guys excited to do a third season?
B: Yeah! The comedy is just really great this year. I'm really excited for our fans to see it because at the end of season two, things just kept climbing and the episodes kept getting funnier and that continues for season three.

TWIST: Zendaya, we know you're also working on your Swag It Out Tour. Can you tell us a little bit about that?
Z: Well, I am going on tour with Bella. She's going to be doing some songs of hers. It's really exciting because not only do I get to tour and perform, which is something I love to do, but I get to do it with people I really care about. I get to do it with people who make me laugh and whom I have fun with, so it's great to be in a nice environment. Not only am I working, but I'm also having fun at the same time.

Thomas Fiss just stopped by the TWIST office! Thomas was so nice and spilled deets about the best part of touring and what we can expect from his upcoming album! Thomas even gave us an exclusive performance of his newest single "Let Go!" Check out our conversation and exclusive video below!

XOXO,
TWIST

TWIST: So tell me a little about your latest EP, "Let Go."
Thomas Fiss: My new album's going to be out early fall. The lead single off that is "Let Go," and it's basically about having a good life, living free, and saying yes when you could say no. It's just about enjoying life, and everything being very easy.

T: Cool! So did you have any kind of girl in mind when writing this song?
TF: Absolutely! Always! Every song needs that right? [Laughs] The song just says chill out, hold on a second, relax, all that good stuff, and then we're going to continue.

T: Awesome! Do you write your own music? How is that process?
TF: Yes. It can be fun and it can be extremely stressful, but I love it! I've been writing since I was ten and slowly honing my skills working with the best of the best. I can get an idea from anything. Honestly a lot of my songs' inspirations come from when I'm in the shower. I'm always singing and sometime in the car I'll record an idea on my phone. But a lot of the songs on the new album are very well thought out, so hopefully it shows.

T: Totally! What's the best part about touring to you?
TF: I think it's just being able to get out and meet new fans and old fans and friends. Honestly, that's why I'm here, to be available for everyone who enjoys my music. Playing the show is awesome, but for me the most exciting part is the meet-and-greet and being able to hang out and see the faces that enjoy the music. That is just beyond inspiring to me!

T: Can you give our readers a little scoop on what they can expect from your album?
TF: It's a happy album. It's definitely fun. I would compare it to a younger, more fun OneRepublic. I think the writing is strong on it, and it's one of those albums you're just going to want to blast and roll your windows down to. There are also some ballads on there, so it's equally balanced!

T: Cool! What's next for you? Do you have anything in the works?
TF: Yes, I've got a lot of stuff! We're going to be pushing "Let Go." The release date for it hitting radio is at the end of this month, hopefully a tour coming up soon, and I have a bunch of dates throughout the country, so keep an eye out!

T: Awesome! Thanks so much for speaking with us!
TF: Thank you!
