XOXO,
TWIST
Q: Can you tell us a bit about the film Jack the Giant Slayer?
Eleanor Tomlinson: It's basically Jack and the Bean Stalk -- the story of how Jack gets the beans, the beanstalk grows, and he comes across a princess. She gets taken with the beanstalk, and he has to go on this massive adventure to save her. It's a really exciting family film with obviously a great love story in the middle of it.
Q: Can you talk a little bit about your character?
ET: I'm playing princess Isabelle. She is the leading lady. She's great, really exciting. She's kind of different from other princesses because she's really feisty, and I wanted that to come across. I didn't want it to be something that we've seen before in all kinds of fairy tales -- I wanted her to have some kind of edge to her, something that's really independent. She was born into this royal family; she didn't choose that lifestyle and I think at times she feels really trapped by it. She tries to get away from it as much as possible and ends up running away to prove that she's her own person and that she wants her own life, and that's kind of the story.
Q: How do you feel like you relate to your character, Isabelle?
ET: We definitely have similarities. When I first read the script I really liked how independent she wanted to be. She's her own person, and she wants to go off and explore the world for herself. She doesn't want to have to have guardians following her around all the time, preventing her from being a real person, preventing her from meeting real people. I really like my independence and I really treasure that.
Q: In the film, Isabelle is a very confident female character, how do you boost your self-confidence?
ET: I have really close friends so whenever I'm feeling self conscious about anything they're the first people that I call. My family is really supportive so I really depend on them. I wouldn't be where I am without them. They are the building blocks that have allowed me to get where I have and that's priceless. I would suggest finding a confidant, someone you're really close to, that really gets you and you can offload anything too, and that would just boost your confidence.
Q: What was it like working with Nicholas Hoult? Did you guys hang out when you weren't filming?
ET: Yes, me and Nick are great mates, which is so crucial for me because when you're working so closely with a co-star it's really important that you get along with them. He is just the loveliest guy and we really did have a ball working on Jack. It was just fantastic. He's an incredible actor so just to be able to work with someone like that it was just great experience for me.
