XOXO,
TWIST

TWIST: We really love Power Rangers Samurai! What news can you share with us about upcoming episodes?

Alex Heartman: I can't give much away, but I can say that we definitely get some new powers, and some new megazords, and we get a couple of new allies too.

T: That sounds interesting! Tell us, what was the audition process like for the show?

AH: Well, the audition process was actually a pretty long process. We had the first round of auditions and I felt more comfortable than I had with any other audition. I actually got to bring a sword into the audition, not a real one, but a wooden sword. The audition scene was a training scene, so I got to showcase my skills with a weapon.

T: Cool! So what's the vibe like on set?

AH: All of the cast, we were just so excited to be there and meet everyone. We were filming in New Zealand, and we are in L.A. now taking a break, but as soon as we got there it was just pure excitement!

T: What's your favorite on-set memory?

AH: One day we were filming in a theme park and during lunch time we were supposed to stay within the confines of our base camp but we as a cast decided to run off and jump on some of the roller coasters!

T: That sounds like fun! Do you have a favorite on-set prank?

AH: Haha! Yeah! Najee [De-Tiege] would bring this huge duffel bag to set everyday! He would bring weights so he could lift between takes, his iPad, his PSP, his iPhone, cameras, and a big jug of protein powder. He always had so much stuff with him. One day Hector [David Jr.] and I decided to take all of his stuff and we hid it around in places around the studio. He got pretty mad at us! I think it took him like an hour and a half to find all of the stuff that we hid.

T: Oh no! His whole life was in there.

AH: Haha! Exactly! That's why it was so funny.

T: If you had to play another character on the show, who would it be and why?

AH: You know, I would love to play a bad guy. I love the team and the Red Ranger has always been my favorite, but as an actor I think it would be a lot of fun to play a bad guy and be sinister and evil. I would take all of them out with invisible sheep! It's not that big of a threat. I don't even know what a sheep would do...nibble them? I don't know. Haha!

T: That sounds crazy! What has been the most difficult stunt you've done on the show?

AH: At the end of the series, I am on horseback. I use my horse a lot more. I was sword-fighting on horseback! It was tough because we were galloping down this road and there was a truck in front of us with the camera. We were at full gallop swinging our swords at each other, trying to steer the horse on the road, watching out for the truck and watching out for holes. That was definitely one of the most challenging stunts.

T: I bet it was pretty dangerous! Have you ever had any embarrassing moments on the set?

AH: When we first started shooting Power Rangers, there was a scene where everyone came to the table where we have our map to show us where to go to where the monsters are. I'm the last one to arrive. I run up and look at the map and I say "Samurai, we have a battle to fight!" and I take off running and they all follow me. The first take on the first day of shooting, I do that and as soon as I turn to run there's actually a cord behind me. I tripped on that and I fell flat on my face. It was a great way to start the series! It was pretty embarrassing.

T: Do you have any upcoming projects to share with TWIST readers?

AH: Yeah, I just filmed a music video with an artist called Temper Trap. It's for their new single coming out [called] "Need Your Love". I'm really excited about that! I [also] have a feature film coming up in May called Take A Chance.

T: Awesome! Thanks for chatting with TWIST!

AH: Yeah, no problem. It was a pleasure TWIST!
