Did you catch the women's gymnastic finals last night? If you didn't, check it out because the U.S. team was AMAZING and went home with the gold! We recently sat down with 17-year-old Olympic gymnast and world all-around champion Jordyn Wieber and chatted about her beauty tips, how she deals with competing with friends, her love of high school football games and what it's like to train for the Olympics! Check out our EXCLUSIVE Q and A below!
TWIST: Before the Olympics, did you have a favorite gymnastics moment?
Jordyn: Definitely World Championships last year was a big moment, winning the gold as a team was a huge goal of mine and I was really happy we achieved that. Then going on to win the all-around was really exciting!
TWIST: What drives you to keep training even on days when you're exhausted?
Jordyn: Ever since I was younger I've had a big passion for the sport, so when I have a tough day I just keep my goals in mind! Making the Olympic team is something I've always dreamed of, so I always just kept that in the back of my mind and it helped me get through those tough days. It helped me stay motivated.
TWIST: Obviously you're always in a leotard and gymnastics is a sport where you're constantly aware of your body. Did you ever feel self-conscious about your body growing up?
Jordyn: I've always been really conscious of my body weight and how I look in a leotard, but I think keeping a healthy diet and staying in the gym working out has made it really easy for me to feel good about my body.
TWIST: How does training affect your social life? Do you ever feel like you're missing out on the normal teenage life?
Jordyn: Because I train so much I don't have the normal high school social life but I try to do as much as I can! In the fall I try to go to as many football games as I can. Usually on Saturday nights I try to hang out with my friends and we'll go to the movies or shopping. I try to find time whenever I can to hang out with them!
TWIST: You and the other girls on your team are really close friends, is it ever hard competing against them?
Jordyn: We've never had a problem, we've always been the best of friends and even when it comes to competition we just want each other to do well -- we cheer for each other!
TWIST: Any quick beauty tips for getting ready in the morning?
Jordyn: When I wake up in the morning I usually go to the gym right away so I just use Olay to moisturize my face and I'll just throw on Covergirl mascara! I don't want to put on too much makeup on for work out!
TWIST: You're an ambassador to P&G Beauty. Why did you decide to get involved in their campaign?
Jordyn: I love the overall campaign, it says that when you look good you feel better and it boosts your confidence. I think that's so true!
TWIST: If you were to give advice to your middle school self what would you say?
Jordyn: My best advice is probably just to be confident in the skin you're in. Just remember to embrace the body you're given and be confident!
TWIST: Thanks so much for talking to us today and good luck at the Olympics!
Jordyn: Thank you!
