TWIST hung out with Jarvis at our offices! He dished to us about his new album, his dream collaboration and what's next for him. Check out our exclusive convo and shout out video below!
XOXO,
TWIST
TWIST: Can you tell us a little bit about "Make A Little Room?"
Jarvis: "Make A Little Room" is basically a song about a love triangle. In my particular scenario, the young lady is catching feelings for someone else and she steps out. I'm basically saying to her that you can do that, but I'm going to make a little room for somebody else, and when you come back, your space might be taken.
TWIST: Have you ever been in that kind of situation before?
J: Unfortunately it's one of those songs that rang true for a situation in my life. It seems like when somebody likes you, now everybody wants to be with you. The story wasn't exactly how the song was or how the video was, but I've definitely been in a triangle where I've had multiple feelings in different places and I've been torn trying to really figure out what I wanted to do.
TWIST: Can you describe your sound for us?
J: My sound is a new-age R&B sound with a retro feel. My life is crazy, and different scenarios I find myself in -- with love and relationships, having fun and being young -- I like being able to bring that side to it, but also still make everything genuine and heartfelt.
TWIST: Can you tell us about your album Cardiology? Is there a story behind the title?
J: Cardiology stems from a mixtape that I dropped called Heartache. Heartache was about me giving something to my fans to let them know that I appreciated them. Stemming from Heartache, we decided to call the album Cardiology because it includes everything that involves the heart and I want to make music directly for that part of the body. I want you to feel love. I want you to feel the passion. I want the certain moods in the records to be something you have to live for. I wanted to put myself into Cardiology, basically give the listener a full idea of who I am, what I'm coming from, and what to expect in the future - the full rundown of Jarvis in Cardiology. I put everything in my music so most times when you hear something from me, it probably really went down just like that. I think that's one of the main things about my music and about me - just making things as relatable as possible.
TWIST: Who would be your dream collaboration?
J: I would definitely have to say Usher. If I ever had a chance to do a track with him that would be like the ultimate for me! He's just such a workaholic. I'm still in awe from the growth period from My Way, which was his first album that was really on the map, to Confessions. I want to model myself after him. I want to take the steps. I want to get better and better and better. I want to evolve into something really, really great and maintain a level of consistency like he did.
TWIST: What's next for you?
J: Definitely more traveling, getting people to know about the record, the single, to check out the video, and definitely working on the album. We're really focused on the single and getting people to go get the mixtape. You can get it at livemixtapes.com. The next thing is to get a lot of the records done for the album. In my mind I kind of already know where I want to go with it, it's just about sitting down and getting in the studio. I don't have a release date yet for the album, but hopefully it's coming really soon.
